Dragon of the Lake

A dragon in Africa, who had taken up residence at a lake in Mali, terrorized a town of villagers, who lived by it's shore. Once a year, the villagers would offer up a virgin to the dragon as a trade for the water in his lake. The people would collect enough water to last an entire year and store it it cisterns. Year after year, a virgin from the village was given to the dragon for the life sustaining water from the lake until only the princess Fatouma was the only remaining virgin. Princess Fatouma was led to the shore of the lake, like all of the other virgins before her and left for the dragon's pleasure. Rushing to her rescue, prince Hammadi after hearing of the princess' fate, went down to the lake. He freed her and slew the dragon of the lake when he came for his virgin sacrifice. After this traumatic event, the prince and princess united in marriage and the village began to prosper once more.
